For as long as I can remember I have been creating with whatever I have on hand. I love texture, color, pattern, whether it is paper, fabric, beads, button, ribbon, wood, thread, anything really. The local variety store and jewelry finding stores were my favorite hangouts in junior high. This was long before there were all-in-one craft stores.
I love to teach and see the students become excited when they realize they too can create their own original art. Giving others the tools and confidence to accomplish this makes me happy and also increases my creativity. I have taught after school children’s art classes, stamp and paper art techniques, collage, appliqué and quilting, embellishments, and many others. Mentoring and inspiring others has always played a big part in my life. I am excited to begin this journey again.
For several years I owned a retail rubber art stamp and paper storefront, designed and manufactured my own line of rubber stamps under Stamp Studio, created ads and articles for magazines. Several of my collage pieces have found their way into books, as well as private collections.
After leaving the paper craft industry, I went back to my first love – fabric and quilting. During this time I designed several quilt patterns and two quilt pattern books and exhibited at the Houston Quilt Market. Life tends to get in the way sometimes and I took a long break and explored hobby farming. Sheep to sweater farming was fun but didn’t leave enough time to knit, quilt or draw.
Nature, color, and anything tactile inspires me. The beach, a walk in the forest, or my garden all bring designs to mind. Recently our family decided on a major move and we now call North Idaho home. We love the outdoors and together we hike, bike, boat, garden, cook and enjoy life together-three generations under one roof. (And that is another story!)
